maybe i don't know it as well as you - i've lived in derby area (duffield, chellaston) for about 12 years before moving to burton 3 years ago - it is better for crime than the following places i have lived; baghdad, lagos, pretoria, bogata, shard end and a shanty town in kingston jamaica....fact, without the aid of any mushrooms!!

None descript is what it was when I was there.

If you take the university away there is even less to attract someone to Derby.

i'm sure you leaving was as big a shock, k-bek. really, for a smallish city (about 200k people i think) it's pretty good and much less chance of being shot/stabbed/raped....although i suppose they pass for entertainment in some places...

Proccy, I have been living in the area (not the city itself) for 20 years, and believe me it is a dump. As for muggings, murders etc you really should lay off those mushrooms, it is as bad as any other city, (apart from Nottingham, now that is bad)! **thumbup

maybe i don't know it as well as you - i've lived in derby area (duffield, chellaston) for about 12 years before moving to burton 3 years ago - it is better for crime than the following places i have lived; nottingham, birmingham, sidcup, bristol and glasgow....fact, without the aid of any mushrooms!!

As i have lived in Derby all my life and know every street in Derby like the back of my hand maybe i should clear this up. To be fair it is rough though in the areas you were talking about Duffield and Chelleston it is posh as owt. Though over the past 5 years Chelleston has started getting fairly rough, e.g. local co op got robbed at gun point a few months ago and street crime has doubled. As for Duffield that is more out in the countryside so is pretty nice. Proccysotv i live in Alvaston/Allenton which im sure you are aware of as its just up the road from Chelleston, and it is rough as you will get to be perfectly honest, there have been stabbings and muggings happening on a daily basis and a mother got shot dead in her house just before christmas. Other area similar to Alvaston and Allenton are Normanton (I'm not a rasict person but 90% of the people who live there are asian) and Chaddeston (always been rough always will be). Then you have got the nice and what people round by way would call posh areas Mackworth, Mickleover, Littleover, Melbourne. So even though i love this town and wouldnt want to be from anywhere else this Mr pengin fella is probably true in some of the things he says about Derby

I hope Derby do well and go up this season (although not at the expense of Blues obviously) soley for Magic Johnson. A true unsung hero at the Blues, he was fantastic for us the entire time he was at the club and one of those rare breeds these days: a footballer with a personality and sense of humour, he used to have some right good banter with the Blues fans, especially at away matches.

Good luck Magic, one of the few ex Blues players I wish was still at the club.

Brilliant post mate, Jonno became a Derby County ledgend within weeks of being at the club, he puts his heart and soul into every single pass, tackle or bloke he makes, he even scores his 1 goal a season. He is a Red dog (forest fan for you not similar with red dog, he said when he first came to the club i'm from nottingham and will always be a red dog and as you probably know Derby and red dogs are swore rivals but with Jonno we dont care we love him!
